Today I started with the grapefruit and kale in the blender as I did this weekend. Instead if water I used tart cherry juice. It was good, but again, because of the thickness I would not recommend it as someone's first juice.
The Mix:
3 kale leaves
1 pink grapefruit no rind or seeds
1 tbsp raw honey
1 tbsp coconut water powder
1/2 cup tart cherry juice
Calories: 242

Blender Juicing
I decided on an experiment today. I used the blender, instead of the juicer, to make make my juice.
The mix: grapefruit with no rind and big seeds removed, 3 large kale leaves, tsp of local raw honey, tsp chia seeds, and a cup of water.
Calories: 215
It came out pretty good. The texture was different than when using a juicer, as expected, but did not gross me out or anything. I would not recommend it for a first time juicer.

Juice To Go
After the smoothie success, I made up a juice to take to work. This made at least 2 big cups, so I can have some left at home. The best guess for calories per cup is 300. The app has some good juice recipes and general guesses, but I tried plugging in each ingredient. Because of all the pulp, I would think that 300 is too high. The mix: 4 leaves of kale, 2 leaves of rainbow chard, parsley, garlic, pear, 2 apples, 4 carrots, 1/2 beet, 1 tomato, and 1 lemon
Threw on some chia seeds in the cup I'm taking.

What's Up Doc
Carrots are the stars this week. I made a juice that lasted a couple if days and doctored up differently for variety. The juice: carrots, bok choy, lemon, scallion, pear, and apple (ran out of kale).
The doctors ~one per glass: hot sauce, chia seeds, veg protein powder.
P.S.: I am freezing the carrot pulp for a future soup.

Juice for Days
I have been beyond lazy when it comes to juicing lately. Today I had a lot of produce sitting in my fridge that needed some attention. Some of it was already bad and the rest was getting close. So, I sorted and cleaned. Everything that was still good was thrown in the juicer. I figure that I have dinner and all day tomorrow for juice meals-an impromptu mini fast. The mix: chard, kale, celery, lemon, apple, pear, pomegranate, ginger, and broccoli.

Can't Juice Turkey
Well, you probably could juice turkey if you were motivated enough. I may juice today, but the main plan is to juice fast Saturday after enjoying a day or two of family fun and meals.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Carrots make it pretty
Broke my blender yesterday so had to go with old reliable. I could use a trip to the store but was able to come up with a good juice. It was bitter and I was sore from a workout, so I put in a flavored veg protein powder. The mix: kale, dandelion greens, lemon, bok choy, apple, and carrots.

Back in the Saddle
All prepped and ready for a week of juicing!
This week I will be combining kale, chard, collard greens, celery, ginger, carrots, pear, apple, jalapeño, and parsley. I have some radish I may throw in should the spirit move me. The lemons at the market were disappointing so none made it home with me.

Juice Break
So, no juicing lately.
I am doing a 7-8 week diet that involves severe calorie restriction and limited food choices. I have a couple of more weeks and then will start back on the juicing path as a way to transition back into a more balanced regime. I am using some of the powdered mixes to supplement my diet, so I am still getting some of the nutrition I would be getting from the juice.
See you soon!

Back to the Juice
I am looking forward to my trip up the store to restock for some great juice this week. I may defrost some of my berries for fruity fun in the meantime!

Juice Update
Just to keep you updated...
I am leaving town at the end of the week, so I did not want to stock up on a lot of veg that I may not get to. I did one fresh, green juice at the beginning of the week and will use store bought version the rest of the week. I certainly plan on returning to fresh when I return.
Have a great week 8)

Revenge of the Juicer
Maybe I was just out of practice, but turning my countertop pink was not the plan. After the fast I have been using the blender and store bought juices. Today I returned to my green eyed friend. The mix: kale, spinach, carrots, parsley, celery, lemon, apple, ginger, strawberries, blueberries, and beet root. I forgot the grace.

Day 10 of Juice Fast
I have finished my last juice of this 10 day journey. I will start to add foods back into my diet tomorrow and am looking forward to it. I drove past a chicken place on my way home and almost crashed the car because it smelled soooo good.
Today's juice: kale, chard, blueberries, broccoli, cauliflower, squash, ginger, apples, parsley, celery, and carrots.

In the Zone
Today I start day 7 of the fast. I did have another smoothie last night and added some cinnamon. Back to the green this morning. The picture is an overflow of everything besides the greens. The mix: 1/2 squash, 1/4 cucumber, lemon, turmeric, ginger, strawberry, blueberry, green and red apples, broccoli, cauliflower, tomato, parsley, kale, chard, peach, and celery.
Good mix, but I think next weeks shopping will be more simple.

Sweet and Spicy
Juice fast day 5:
I did have another cheat smoothie yesterday. My favorite shop also had frozen, blended bananas that felt like an ice cream cheat.
Today's blend turned out a little sweet. I had prepped an extra pear and then remembered that I had fresh pineapple that needed to be used. I also had a banana that was about to die so I refrigerated it, to firm it up. Some juice did come out but I think the blender is a better destination for banana.
The rest: kale, chard, parsley, apple, yellow carrots, tomato, and celery. I added cayenne to this morning's glass. A nice kick.

Cheating on My Juicer
Half way through day 4 of a juice fast and my body was yelling for something besides green juice. So I broke out the blender. Slightly breaking the rules of a fast, a smoothie appeared. Smoothie cheat: small banana, large tablespoon of peanut butter, flax milk.
Wow, it is good. I may add wheat grass powder if I cheat again so I don't feel as guilty.

Juice Fast Day 2
I have talked myself into a fast. One day down, two pounds lost. After three weeks of some questionable food choices I was feeling a bit bloated. I am using the vegan protein mix once a day and I will take some supplements today- B complex, vitamin D, and fish oil. Today's mix: mixed greens, apple, watermelon, lemon, garlic, yellow squash, acai juice, broccoli, cucumber, and kiwi.
I didn't stock up for a fast, so I am taking it one juice at a time.

Back in the Saddle
After a bit of a break, I am ready to juice again. While my juicer was on vacation, I did have some of those powdered green mixes with water. It just is not the same. Prepared tonight for tomorrow's juice: spinach, yellow carrots, blueberries, pear, lemon, turmeric, beet root, broccoli, cucumber, tomato, and garlic.

Juice for 2
I have an old friend in town this morning and decided to make a juice. I left out some of the more bitter greens like kale and chard to make it a little more palatable. The juice: romaine, lemon with no rind, pear, grapes, carrot, and cucumber.
The verdict: it was great. My friend even had seconds. I learned I can lighten up juice and not over complicate things all the time.
